Frequently Asked Questions

At Veterans Moving America, we know that in order to provide the best service possible, we need the best equipment. That’s why all of our moving equipment is high quality and build to last. No knockoff cheap brands ever. Also, all of our trucks have air-ride suspension, which is the smoothest suspension system possible for the type of truck we use to move your possessions safely and smoothly.

FAQ Accordion
Q: What services do you offer and where do you operate?

A: VMA offers full-service moving, labor-only moving (our "Helping Hands" service), professional packing, professional unpacking, storage, and packing materials to anyone in the greater DFW area. We also provide long-distance moving services for anyone in the lower 48 states moving to or from DFW.

Q: Are you licensed and insured?

A: Yes, Veterans Moving America is fully licensed and insured.

US DOT: 2377364

TxDMV: 0067337716

Q: Do you really only hire veterans?

A: Yes. With the exception of our Founder and CEO, who started the company specifically to create opportunities for veterans, every VMA employee is a U.S. military veteran.

Q: How do I get a quote?

A: Getting a quote is simple and free. Visit our website and use our online estimate tool, or call us at 817-989-6362. We'll gather the details of your move and provide a competitive estimate with no obligation.

Q: How far in advance should I book my move?

A: We recommend booking as early as possible, especially during peak moving seasons (spring and summer). That said, we do our best to accommodate last-minute requests based on availability. Contact us and we'll let you know what we can do.

Q: Can you move large or specialty items like pianos or gun safes?

A: Yes, we can move most oversized and specialty items, including heavy gun safes, regardless of weight, as long as no stair access is required. The items we cannot move are hot tubs and pool tables that are not already crated. Have a large or unusual item? Let us know when booking, and we'll make sure we come prepared.

Q: What happens if something is damaged during my move?

A: All licensed moving companies are required by law to provide a minimum liability of $0.60 per pound per item at no cost to you. This is not insurance — it is a baseline protection standard across the entire moving industry. For greater peace of mind, additional valuation policies are available that provide higher coverage limits, though these come at an added cost and typically include a deductible. This is how damages are handled industry-wide, not just at VMA. We take enormous care with every item we touch, and damage genuinely bothers us when it happens. While no one is perfect, we always look for ways to make things right. If you have questions about coverage options before your move, we are happy to walk you through them.

TIPS FROM
THE MOVERS

#1

Pack an overnight bag containing all the essentials.

Chances are, you'll be too tired to unpack your things. You'll want your essentials within easy access, including a change of clothes if you're going back to work the next day as well as all your toiletries. It's also a great way to transport a laptop, which could run the risk of getting stolen during a move.

#2

Pack the items you will need FIRST in a clear plastic bin.

This includes things like a box cutter, paper towels, trash bags, eating utensils, select cookware, power strips, phone chargers, toilet paper, tools, etc. The clear bin allows you to see inside; it also separates itself from the myriad of cardboard boxes.

#3

Label every box on the sides, not the top.

When boxes are stacked, you can't see what's on top. Labeling the sides ensures you can always identify the contents no matter how the boxes are arranged. Use a bold marker and include the destination room to make unpacking faster and more organized.

#4

Use clothing and linens to wrap fragile items.

Instead of buying extra bubble wrap, use your towels, t-shirts, and socks to cushion breakables like dishes and glassware. This saves packing material costs, reduces the number of boxes needed, and keeps your fragile items well protected during the move.

#5

Take photos of your electronics setup before disconnecting.

Before unplugging your TV, gaming console, or computer setup, snap a photo of all the cable connections. This makes it much easier to reconnect everything at your new place without spending hours figuring out which cable goes where.

#6

Keep screws and hardware in labeled zip-lock bags.

When disassembling furniture, place all screws, bolts, and small parts into a zip-lock bag and tape or rubber band it directly to the furniture piece it belongs to. This saves enormous time when reassembling and prevents losing critical hardware.

#7

Change your address at least two weeks before moving.

Notify the post office, your bank, employer, subscriptions, and any government agencies of your new address ahead of time. Missing mail or important documents during a move can cause unnecessary stress and complications that are hard to resolve after the fact.

#8

Defrost your refrigerator at least 24 hours before moving day.

A refrigerator that hasn't been defrosted will leak water during transport, potentially damaging floors and other belongings. Plan ahead by emptying and unplugging it the night before so it's fully defrosted and dry when the movers arrive.

#9

Keep important documents with you, not in the moving truck.

Passports, birth certificates, financial records, and medical documents should travel with you personally. These items are irreplaceable and should never be packed into boxes that could get lost, delayed, or damaged during the moving process.

#10

Do a final walkthrough of your old home before leaving.

Check every room, closet, cabinet, and drawer before handing over the keys. It's easy to forget items in attics, garages, or storage spaces during the chaos of moving day. A thorough walkthrough ensures nothing valuable gets left behind.
